July 6, Day 73 Dimbulah

July 6, Day 73 Dimbulah

We left the Lions Den Hotel yesterday morning and headed south again. We managed to agree on a destination after several changes along the way. UHF radios are a wonderful thing, while driving we are able to communicate about different places we want to see or a sight on the way that we want to photograph or the inevitable toilet stop.

We eventually agreed on Dimbulah Caravan Park, far enough away from Cairns and surrounding Tablelands during school holidays to not be busy and close enough to be an easy drive to explore. Thoroughly recommend this park to anyone travelling up this way, and at $12 a night powered, clean amenities and peaceful location, what more could you ask for?

This time we made it into camp with plenty of time to spare to get dinner sorted out at a reasonable hour. Carolyn and Terry put the bbq to good use and we enjoyed steak and snags for dinner.

Today we did the whirlwind tour of the Tablelands. We drove to Atherton and raided the information centre for an arm-load of their brochures then headed to Platypus Park for a picnic lunch. Afterwards we did the tourist thing and checked out Curtain Fig, Lake Eacham, Lake Barrine, Cathedral Fig and Danbulla Forest Drive around Lake Tinaroo then back to Atherton for a grocery shop and back to camp. Whew, full day. By late afternoon we were whizzing past sights and saying "check, done that."
